The Hybrid Hazardous Materials Operations course uses traditional and online delivery methods. It is designed to provide first responders with the skills and knowledge needed to take appropriate initial actions at a hazardous materials spill (or leak) as well as weapons of mass destruction incident. The student will be introduced to hazards and properties of hazardous materials, identification, incident management elements, strategic goals and tactical objectives, personal protective equipment, contamination and decontamination, incident specific strategies and tactics, and terrorist and other criminal activities. This course consists of classroom lectures, activities and hands-on practical skills. It meets the objectives of NFPA 472, Chapter 5 core competencies for operations level and 6.2 and 6.6 mission specific competencies required by NFPA 1001 for Firefighter I.
