Our Course Types
South Carolina Fire Academy courses:
Created specifically for the South Carolina fire service. The SCFA Instructional Design team creates these courses in collaboration with Subject Matter Experts (SME) groups and/or members of other South Carolina fire related associations. Provides valuable training and information important to members of the fire service and others involved in emergency response in South Carolina. Courses are not likely to be recognized or honored if a firefighter relocates to another state. Completing a series of these courses may allow for; challenge test to receive certification.
Examples: EVDT and Pump Operations courses.

Certification exams are available upon successful completion of the course. This certification is the most widely recognized training and generally recognized if a firefighter relocates from one state to another. These courses meet NFPA recognized standards. The SCFA Instructional Design team in collaboration with Subject Matter Expert (SME) groups reviews these courses and makes revisions or enhancements to maintain the required standards, while meeting the needs of the South Carolina fire service.
Examples: FFI, FFII, and Fire Officer courses.
National Fire Academy courses:
Nationally recognized coursework created by the National Fire Academy. The NFA provides this coursework to state fire academies across the country to deliver to firefighters locally. This training may be recognized and honored if a firefighter relocates from one state to another. The SCFA Instructional Design team may enhance this curriculum to include SC specific details, or may simply facilitate the delivery of the course "as is” from the NFA.
